Oprah Winfrey On Rihanna: Talk-Show Queen Says Singer Was Most Surprising Interview Of The Year

The Oprah Winfrey Show" may be long gone, but that hasn't stopped the legendary talk-show host from snagging her fair share of top-shelf interview subjects. Winfrey recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter her most interesting or surprising interview of the year. It's also the one that nabbed her some of "Oprah's Next Chapter's" highest ratings: Rihanna.

Despite gab sessions with the likes of Lady Gaga, the Kardashians, Justin Bieber and Whitney Houston's family, Winfrey said the Rihanna sit-down "surprised" her the most.
Rihanna brought 1,000 percent of her," Winfrey told THR. "You could tell that she came ready. She was open to anything. But I don’t do an interview if someone tells me I can’t ask a certain question. My policy is, I can ask any question; you can tell me you won’t answer it, but you have to tell me that on camera. I really didn’t know that much about her. I just thought she was so thoughtful and so smart. I didn’t know that she was or wasn’t; I only knew her from her music."

During her conversation with Winfrey, Rihanna broke down in tears while discussing her tumultuous relationship with singer Chris Brown, who assaulted her in 2009. Rihanna revealed during the interview that she has since forgiven Brown, saying they are "still close" and "will always love each other."

"Who's going to help him? Nobody's going to say that he needs help," Rihanna said. "Everybody's going to say that he's a monster, without looking at the source."

The singer has since prompted rumors that perhaps the two are back together, which includes tweeting a photo of a shirtless Brown lying facedown in an unmade bed.

Winfrey and Rihanna also discussed Esquire magazine dubbing the singer the "sexiest woman alive."

Rihanna's Aug. 19 episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" racked up 2.5 million viewers, whereas the series normally sees somewhere between 400,000 and 700,000 viewers. The only episode to top Rihanna's ratings was March 11's candid interview with the Houston family, which aired just one month after the "I Will Always Love You" singer's death and collected 3.5 million viewers.

The Oprah Winfrey Network struggled to find its footing upon its inception in early 2011 but has since collected steam. Winfrey told THR the network still has a ways to go but that the progress feels like "a sign of relief and gratitude."

Rihanna, Chris Brown Kiss: 'Diamonds' Singer Posts Photo Embracing Ex PHOTO

They certainly look like more than just friends.

Rihanna and Chris Brown, who have refused to comment on rumors of a rekindled romance, appear to be very much back together in a recent photo posted by the "Diamonds" singer.

SCROLL FOR PHOTO

In the photo posted to her Instagram, Rihanna can be seen kissing Brown's head with her arms wrapped around his neck. "I don't wanna leave!!! Killed it tonight baby!!!" reads the caption, likely referring to Brown's Thursday performance in Frankfurt, Germany, as part of his "Carpe Diem" world tour.

This is not the first intimate photo Rihanna has posted of Brown. On Saturday, she shared a photo of Brown lying in her bed, shirtless.

Rihanna and Brown are likely back together, having recently celebrated Thanksgiving in Berlin and bought matching Rolexes. But the exes have been coy about Round 2 of their relationship, which first ended in 2009 after the "Don't Wake Me Up" singer assaulted the 24-year-old beauty.

In a recent interview with Power 106 radio host Big Boy, Brown said that they are "working on their friendship," which has blossomed since the singer broke it off with model Karrueche Tran.

"As far as our personal life, I think people just got to give it a chance or not even give it a chance, but shut the hell up," Brown told Power 106 of his relationship with Rihanna. "It's me. At the end of the day, whatever opinion they have ain't going to change nothing I'm doing."

Rihanna does not appear to mind that Brown sullied his already-damaged reputation with a vulgar Twitter attack aimed at comedian Jenny Johnson. In a recent interview, the R&B star called Brown "pretty dope."

Rihanna, 'Diamonds' Singer, Buys House for $12 Million in Pacific Palisades

Rihanna's smash hit "Diamonds" might be topping the music charts, but we're not sure the house she recently bought is as big of a winner.

The powerhouse songstress plopped $12 million on a super-modern 11,000-square-foot mansion in Pacific Palisades, Calif., that honestly looks a little like an airport. Or a spaceship. (There's a lot of those going around right now.)

Rihanna We're guessing RiRi was taken by the home's chic amenities, including a pool and spa, wet bar, 6,000-square-foot garden, and outdoor barbecue and bar. The interior is pretty slick, too, with wide-open spaces lined with walls of windows and 14-foot-ceilings throughout.

We may not be overly enthusiastic about this place, but she sure is. She tweeted: "I literally wake up every morning at 530 ish and stare at my pool til the sun comes up! Just waiting! #isthismylife"

Yes, Rihanna, it's your life and not ours. Thanks for the reminder. Just like the title of her seventh studio album, she seems pretty "Unapologetic" about this purchase.
